For the full story of the wine behind the label, keep reading.

This award-winning wine has Aggie roots that run deep. Literally. It began as Merlot grapes cultivated under the watchful eyes of Dr. Vijay Reddy, guided by his vast horticulture knowledge and the research of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service specialists. For months, the grapes matured on grapevines at Reddy Vineyards, soaking up the sun and rain of the Texas High Plains.

Then came a visit by Winemaker Tiffany Farrell. She thought the Merlot grapes were perfect and off they went to Haak Vineyards & Winery, across the state of Texas to Galveston County. Tiffany worked her magic, selecting just the right yeast to bring out the berry and plum-like flavors of those perfect Merlot grapes. When the wine was finished, Tiffany selected American oak barrels for the final step. After 14 months, Tiffany pronouced this 2018 Merlot wine was ready to be presented.

The award-winning part? That would be the Texas Class Champion and Silver Medal that this wine won in the 2021 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition. And the Gold Medal it won in the 2020 Uncorked! competition. And the saddle that Haak Vineyards & Winery was awarded when it was named Top Texas Winery in the 2019 Uncorked! competition.

The custom label on the bottle was inspired by the painting by Anna Marie Wier, featuring Reveille VII marching with her Company E-2. The painting represents so many traditions cherished by Anna Marie's husband, John Wier '49 – the Corps, the Mascot Corporal, the Senior boots, the sabre, the adoring fans dressed in maroon, the little boy in a posture familiar to all Aggies (looks like he's ready for a yell, doesn't it, Ags?)

Our gratitude goes out to Ellen Custer, 2d – a Design Collaborative, for bringing inspiration to reality, for giving visual form to our ideas. Thank you, Ellen, for your expert execution (and patience!) producing this unique wine label.

All profits from the sale of this item will be donated to Texas A&M student organizations and programs.  Houston Aggie Women appreciates your participation.
