About The Event
Who are you helping? Read below for a full description of this fantastic student organization dedicated to eliminating food insecurity at Texas A&M University.
How can you help? Buy “tickets” through this “event”.
From the ‘social distance’ of your home, you can participate in a Challenge Match to raise money for The 12th Can.
There are 3 ticket prices. Combine them in any quantity to make any amount of donation that you want.
For example: If you graduated from Texas A&M in 1994, you might buy 9 $10 tickets and 4 $1 tickets.
Come on now, you may not have a degree in math, but you can figure out that adds up to a donation of $94.00!
And here’s the Challenge Match: for every dollar donated, Houston Aggie Women will match it! (up to $500.)
So get out that Aggie ring and look at the numbers on the top. The left number is the quantity of $10 tickets you want. The right number is the quantity of $1 tickets.
NOTE: For those of you whose ring has a ‘0’ or ‘1’ as the left number, consider adding some extra $10 tickets or even a $100 ticket to your donation. It’s for the students!
And for those of you who do not have an Aggie ring to consult, you get to make up a number!! Whatever your heart tells you is the right thing to do.
FULL DESCRIPTION of Who you are helping:
The goal of The 12th Can is to eliminate hunger at Texas A&M, bring awareness to food insecurity in college communities, and show others the power of the Aggie spirit.
12th Can members operate an on-campus food pantry from start to finish. From food orders to product donations to food drives to pantry openings, they do it all.
The pantry process is based on a client choice model, where they replicate a shopping experience for their clients. Food insecurity is a humbling problem, and they want to serve recipients with the highest level of comfort possible.
The 12th Can pantry will resume full operation next week beginning on April 1st. They will be following the safe practices that Brazos Valley Food Bank has constructed for serving during the virus outbreak including sanitation of surfaces and glove use. Instead of clients shopping in the pantry room itself, 12th Can members will set up tables behind their pantry to accommodate vehicle drive-thru as well as social distancing of clients on foot.
12th Can members work hard, always striving to embody the group’s core values: selfless service, campus involvement, continual development, and passion.
For more information about The 12th Can, including their end-of-semester meal swipe drive, Swipe Out Hunger, go to www.the12thcan.org.
The 12th Can resides under the Student Government Association and is affiliated with Brazos Valley Food Bank as a program partner.
12th Can members are diverse, coming from a variety of backgrounds, but they are all Aggies, unified in the spirit of service.
