About The Event

>>>THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.

If you would like to attend, email shop_manager@HoustonAggieWomen.org to see if we have a cancellation.

The visual and performing arts are well-established and respected programs at Texas A&M.  Animation Career Review ranks the Aggie animation program as second only to UCLA among U.S. public schools.

In September 2022, the School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts was formed to equip students who seek careers in the fine arts with the foundational knowledge and cutting-edge digital skills that will set them apart.

Building upon Texas A&M strengths in science and technology, SPVFA is a place for students who love to imagine, create, learn, and grow.

We welcome Christine Bergeron and Dr. James Ball to tell us all about this new learning environment designed for those who love to explore new ways of seeing the world and who understand the magic that can happen when beauty and technology merge.

Kinda makes you want to go back to school, doesn't it?

Dr. James R. Ball III is Associate Dean for Industry and Community Engagement and Associate Professor of Performance Studies in Texas A&M’s School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts. He is also the Director of Texas A&M's Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts, an organization that brings internationally-renowned avant garde artists and performers to the Brazos Valley. Dr. Ball studies the performance of diplomacy, the politics of spectatorship, and immersive and interactive aesthetics. His books include Theatre of State: a Dramaturgy of the United Nations (Northwestern University Press, 2020) and Performing Statecraft: the Postdiplomatic Theatre of Sovereigns, Citizens, and States (Methuen Drama, 2023). His work has also been published in TDR: The Drama Review, The Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, The International Journal of Performance Arts and Digital Media, Brecht Yearbook, and e-misférica.

Christine Bergeron is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts. Prior to her appointment as Associate Dean, she served as the Director of Dance for 15 years. She received a B.A. in Dance from the University of Akron and an MFA in Choreography and Performance from Florida State University. Currently, she is writing her dissertation to receive a Ph.D. in Dance Science from the University of Wolverhampton with a research focus in Pilates and its impact on dance training and performance. Chris is certified in Pilates Mat through the advanced level and is an Associate Instructor for the Pilates Equipment work from the Physical Mind Institute and Balanced Body. Her dance science research on Pilates and its impact on dancers has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented internationally and nationally at various conferences. Most recently she has teamed up with colleagues on drill team research looking at the training and injury rates in high school dancers. The team's initial findings will be presented next month at the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. Choreographically, Chris and a team of collaborators including dance faculty Carisa Armstrong created an evening-length work about the Holocaust titled, But Where There’s Hope, There’s Life. Through this project, the team has partnered with high schools to help teach this important part of our history through art.  Additionally, she is interested in how the choreographer and performer are impacted by the integration of technology in performance and has worked on numerous projects with Visualization faculty, Jinsil Hwaryoung Seo. Their work has included the integration of technology in dance performance using wearable technology, projection mapping and most recently motion tracking in a 360-projection dome. Her choreographic works have been presented throughout the nation in Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, New York, California, Illinois, Texas, Mexico, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Chris has been recognized for teaching and received the Dance Master Educator award for College/University from the National Dance Society (NDS) and the Dance Educator of the Year from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD). She has also received the Honor Award from TAHPERD for her choreographic and dance science research.
